Em 1970, um motorista de caminhão sulista conhece Iracema, uma jovem índia
prostituída, durante as festas do Círio de Nazaré em Belém do Pará. Dá uma carona
para ela, a deixando em um lugarejo no meio da estrada. A viagem, como todo o filme,
serve como pretexto para que sejam mostrados os problemas da região –
desmatamento, más condições de trabalho e saúde, venda de camponeses em
confronto com a fantasiosa propaganda institucional.

In 1970, a truck driver from the southern, in Belém, during the festivities of the Candle of Nazareth, knew Iracema, a young Indian prostitute. He gives her a ride, leaving her in a village in the middle of the road. The trip, like all the film serves as an excuse to show the region's problems - deforestation, poor work and health conditions, peasants sales in confrontation with the fanciful institutional advertising.
